Long Stitch Art Work
Long Stitch Art Work
Long stitch is thread work art which involves combining stitches in a variety of lengths. All the stitches in this art work are straight and vertical. Long stitch offers a quicker way to cover an area of fabric.
This is done in Aida cloth or any even weave fabric.
Aida cloth is an open, even-weave fabric. This cotton fabric has a natural mesh that facilitates cross-stitching and other count and stitch art works, it has enough natural stiffness.
These are described by the count. For example, a 10-count Aida cloth would have 10 squares per linear inch. Typical sizes are 7, 10, 11, 12, 14, 16, 18, 22, and 28 count, ranked from the coarsest to the finest count. I use 14 count Aida cloth for my artworks.
Thread used for this artwork is embroidery floss from DMC or Anchor. The thread is made up of 6 easily separated strands, which allows you to customize the thickness of the thread by choosing the number of strands.
I started my first long stitch work with a kit from Anchor.
Long stitch kits contain fabric (the design outline printed onto the Cloth), thread/floss, a needle and full instructions. It is very easy to work with the Kit.
Anchor has a very good collection of designs. Most of my works are anchor designs only. All credits to the brilliant artists working behind this to create such beautiful designs.
Later I started drawing the design on Aida cloth and filling it with desired colors.
Anchor and DMC are the two thread brand which I depend on in getting the perfect color shade. They have a huge collection of threads in almost all shades, you can get the shade number from their website guide and buy that locally.
You can create anything from a simple image to incredibly detailed one. Its a fun and very satisfying.
I create these artwork as a gift for various occasions.
